On August 22, 1958, Ben’s Chili Bowl opened for business. The street (U Street) was then known nationally as “Black Broadway” and Washington D.C. was still segregated. But all were always welcome at Ben’s.
Owned and operated by the Williams Family since 1978, Chat’s Liquors is an independent wine & spirit retailer, specializing in small production, authentic, libations from around the world.
Proud to be a black owned business, we’ve been serving our smokehouse BBQ in a little DC space since 2013, on Florida & North Capitol St. With a whole lot of love & support we’re continuing to win the hearts of DC locals and tourist alike.
Established in 2016, The HalfSmoke project features a unique and complex foodservice design, combining elements of a quick-service restaurant, café, and gastro pub.
